I am skeptical about this movie ever happening.

Ridley is in his '70s and he's got a ton of movies on his plate. Many of these will die on the vine, just like his version of I Am Legend ultimately never happened.

I suspect the Alien prequel is one of those that will die out, or at least be stuck in development hell long enough that Ridley will pass away before it ever comes to fruition.

And if that happens, you know what Fox is gonna do next...

Remake.

It's inevitable. And I dread it with every fiber of my being.

Yes and updating it for the modern audiences may result in something unspeakable. Of course it may be amazing! But I dont want a remake. Though that Friday the 13th Remake is looking good surprisingly.

I kinda side with SM.  The original will always be there and strong on its own accord.  If the two AvP movies and its misbegotten sequel AR can't pull it down, I doubt a remake would.

I can only see it affecting people who have no idea the original Alien exist.

Alien (and Aliens for that matter) are still considered classics in spite of the negativity directed at everything from Alien3 onwards.  They haven't been tarnished and never will.
