Having read the scripts, it's honestly kind of a miracle that the first Gladiator turned out as well as it did. Franzoni's draft wasn't all that, and Logan's was better but not by much. It's probably one of the few cases where constant rewrites actually helped the final product.

A couple new details:

-In a Sky News interview Ridley said that they should finish shooting the rest of the film before Christmas.

-In a Rotten Tomatoes interview Ridley said Paul Mescal's character was in the wilderness for the last 12 years since we last saw him and his mother doesn't know whether he is still alive.

Seems like they are back to shooting after a short Christmas break:
